Lark Hill

Lark Hill Hudson Vineyard Mourvèdre 2021 14% 750ML

Lark Hill Hudson Vineyard Mourvèdre 2021 14% 750ML

Lark Hill was established by Sue and David Carpenter in 1978, on the Lake George Escarpment above Bungendore, having left careers in scientific research to pursue their passion for winemaking. At 860 metres, Lark Hill is one of the highest and coldest vineyards in Australia, producing delicate Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

In 2002, Sue and David’s son Chris joined the family business and as a team, the three have evolved the Lark Hill brand. In 2003 Lark Hill transitioned from organic to Biodynamic farming and in 2005 planted the first Grüner Veltliner vineyard in Australia, using cuttings given to Chris from a private collection in Tasmania.

WINEMAKER'S COMMENTS

In the winery, we seek to translate the balance and vibrance of the fruit to the wines - using minimal intervention winemaking techniques to ensure that the wine reflects the geology, climate and location of our vineyard, in a true preservation of Terroir.

REGION NOTES

Lark Hill is a cold vineyard, and at 860m elevation, is one of the highest plantings in the Canberra district. The soils are shallow depleted shale over clay, and the vinyeard receives around 600mm of rainfall annually.

GRAPES/BLEND

Mourvèdre (or Mataro) often disappears into GSM blends - perhaps a shame. This variety can shine in moderate climates such as the HIlltops region where this wine was grown.

VINIFICATION

The fruit was whole-bunch fermented and bottled without oak maturation.
