The Poggio Anima white wines are named after religious archangels while the reds are named after fallen angels. Each wine was specifically named for the persona of the grape, region and style, and each wine is made from a single-vineyard and dominant single variety, and represents its indigenous place of origin.
APPEARANCE Ruby coloured.
AROMA Notes of cherries, plums and blueberries.
PALATE Well balanced on the palate with lots of red fruit and spice characters, soft tannins and a long, elegant finish.
FOOD MATCHING To be enjoyed at its best with grilled lamb, a nice steak, a vegetarian risotto or even meaty fish dishes.
REGION NOTES Located in central Sicily, in the provence of Caltanissetta, at about 500 metres above sea level. The altitude, together with the distance from sea, provides for excellent diurnal variety where the warm Sicilian sun is alternated with fresh, cool evenings, ensuring great conditions for ripening the grapes. The vines are planted south-faceing following the vertical trellis system on sandy and clay-rich soil using guyot pruning.
GRAPES/BLEND: 100% Nero d'Avola.
VINIFICATION De-stemming and maceration for 12-15 days at 25C° with frequent delestage. Soft press and vinification in temperature controlled stainless steel vats. Deuxieme passage in french and american oak for 3 months.
