Siduri Santa Barbara Pinot Noir 2018 14.5% 750ml
Tasting Notes
Aroma
Black plum, fig, cremini mushroom, rhubarb.
Palate
Fresh blackberry, plum, savoury herbs. Broad, rich mid-palate, which is accented by fresh acidity and soft tannins.
Vinification
Whole cluster fermentations were employed judiciously to add earthy complexity to the dark, ripe flavors of the fruit. Destemmed fermentations showed pure and vibrant fruit almost instantly, making cellaring and blending the 2018 vintage a true joy.
Maturation
30% new French oak for 10 months.
Region notes
The proximity of the vineyards to the Pacific Ocean produces wines with crisp acidity and beautiful aromatics. Our Santa Barbara County vineyards are some of our coolest sites, which promotes a longer hang time, deep colors and polished tannins.
Vintage notes
The 2018 growing season provided a welcome reprieve from the challenges and extremes of 2017. A common sentiment in the area was a ‚return to normal, after experiencing a string of drought-affected vintages and earlier picking times. Temperatures in the Santa Maria Valley and Sta. Rita Hills routinely peaked in the 70s throughout the summer months, with only a handful of days climbing over 80 degrees in June and July. The mild summer led to mild and dry fall weather without any major heat events, which allowed fruit to ripen evenly on the vine. These factors contributed to a later start to harvest than previous vintages. The mild weather and lack of fall rain produced rich, opulent wines with intense color and aromatics.
