WINEMAKERS COMMENTS

Our Single Vineyard Series represents the pinnacle of the Swinging Bridge range. Made when the vintage allows, we showcase only the best parcels of fruit from our two Orange sites. Situated at 890m elevation and 4km west of our Cellar Door, our Caldwell Lane Vineyard delivers high-quality fruit with perfumed elegance, clarity and structure. The fruit for our 2024 Caldwell Lane Pinot Noir is sourced from Block G; a late-ripening block with an east facing aspect that sits atop a ridge.

FOOD MATCHING

Beef Bourguignon.

VINIFICATION

The fruit, comprising clones 667 and 115, is sorted separately and destemmed without rollers to preserve as many whole berries as possible. It is cold-soaked for three days in open fermenters and plunged twice daily once fermentation begins. Towards the end of ferment, the wine is pressed with some residual sugar from the whole berries and transferred to barrels to complete fermentation and malolactic conversion. Sulphur is added at the end of fermentation and the wine is aged in barrel for ten months. The oak profile includes 20% new French oak, primarily puncheons, from a variety of tonneliers. Each clone is kept separate throughout fermentation, allowing for careful selection of the finest barrels to become our Caldwell Lane Pinot Noir.

VINTAGE NOTES

The 2024 season saw above-average temperatures before and during the growing period, peaking at 34ºC and leading to an early bud burst. Rainfall was slightly above average, paired with high humidity in early February, prompting proactive disease management through trimming, leaf plucking, and fruit thinning. Minimal rain in March allowed the Pinot Noir to reach optimal ripeness whilst retaining beautiful natural acids.
