Robert Stein Reserve Chardonnay 2023 12pack 12% 750ml
Tasting Notes
Palate
A classic style of Chardonnay with citrus and stone fruit notes, leading to a complex and creamy palate, with nice acidity and length to finish.
Food matching
This rich chardonnay will sit well with any chicken, a creamy pasta or creamy winter soup dish.
Range notes
The Reserve Range of wines are produced using the best blocks of fruit from the oldest parts of the Robert Stein Vineyard. These wines are made to reflect the outstanding quality of the vineyard, and the best of the flavours and characteristics which the Mudgee Region offers.
Vinification
Picked by hand, whole bunch pressed straight in to barrel (50% new, 50% older French oak hogsheads) and allowed to wild ferment. Added complexity was gained through partial malolactic fermentation (20%) & some early bâttonage.
Maturation
Matured in oak for 11 months.
Vintage notes
There was a late start to harvest in 2023 with early whites being harvested the later part of February and into early March. Luckily, we had relatively dry weather in all of summer allowing us to concentrate on ripening. The warm, dry and slow ripening conditions ensured natural acids were retained, with lower-than-normal Baume but flavours were able to develop gradually, meaning whites like Riesling are particularly exciting this vintage. One of the best vintages we have seen in a long time!
