Tasting Notes

Palate
A classical dry Riesling, with all the lime & fruit characters you would expect, & a crisp & racy finish with a slight touch of sweetness. This wine has the ability to age beautifully.

Food matching
This style of Riesling is well suited to shellfish & seafood, especially fresh rock oysters or fresh Tiger Prawns A brilliant aperitif wine.

Vintage notes
The growing season started with excellent winter rains allowing us to concentrate on building soil & vine health. The rain eased throughout Spring which allowed our vineyard to produce excellent fruit. Summer showers led to a tricky harvest, however our elevation & vineyard slope allowed the rain to drain out of the vineyard, & our cover crop soaked up the excess water. It was a short harvest period, with just enough sun & warmth to ripen all varieties nicely & we have great concentration & balance in all of our wines this year.

Vinification
This Riesling was made from fruit selected mostly from our own 1976 Stein vineyard & from numerous other high elevation Mudgee sites. The fruit was handpicked & whole bunch pressed, then fermented cool in a stainless-steel tank using an inoculated yeast. A small amount of lees contact offers complexity & nuanced texture.
