Rall Cinsault 12.5% 2023 750ml
Donovan Rall has a knack for coaxing serious character out of Cinsault, and the 2023 vintage might be his best yet. Sourced mainly from old bush vines in Darling, planted in 1982 on iron-rich clay soils, with a small portion from the Swartland, this is a bright, perfumed red with real depth behind its elegance.
Fermented naturally using 100% whole bunches, the wine undergoes semi-carbonic maceration before ageing for eight months in a mix of large foudre and older French oak barrels. The result is a light-footed yet structured Cinsault with layers of red fruit, fine tannins from the stems, and fresh acidity keeping everything in check.
It’s a wine that’ll win over Pinot lovers but has a little more grip and savoury bite to set it apart. Chill it down slightly and enjoy it with grilled lamb, charcuterie, or just good company. Donovan rates this as his best Cinsault to date, and that’s recommendation enough.

"Based on fruit from Darling, with a 10% contribution from the Swartland, it has wonderful perfume, vibrancy and freshness, rose petal and potpourri aromas, a hint of sea breeze, detailed tannins and succulent raspberry and wild strawberry fruit. 2024-29."
