Winemakers comments
Hickinbotham Clarendon Vineyard covers a steep cut of country from the ridgetops above the village of Clarendon to the Onkaparinga River in the gorge below. Since its establishment in 1971, the Hickinbotham Vineyard has become a part of Australia’s wine heritage, supplying fruit to produce many of Australia’s greatest wines. Breathing new life into this historic vineyard, winemakers Chris Carpenter and Peter Fraser are forging a new era of Hickinbotham’s prestigious legacy: building upon and honouring the vineyard’s acclaimed pedigree.

2022 – 2042.

Vintage notes
The growing season was affected by a very hot spring, leading to the lowest yields on our record. When the grapes started their ripening process in January, the weather miraculously cooled to a very mild ripening season. This resulted in wonderful concentration of flavour, retention of natural acidity and brightness of fruit, delivering wines with beautiful finesse and balanced tannins.

Vinification
The two varieties were hand-picked, destemmed and fermented separately. Gently basket pressed. The Cabernet matured for 15 months in fine-grained Bordeaux coopered barrels (60% new). The Shiraz was barrelled down to 1- 2 year old puncheons, remaining on lees for 6 months. Final percentage of new oak in the blend is 50%. The finest lots from each variety were selected and blended shortly before bottling.
