Tasting Notes

Appearance
Rich deep burgundy.

Aroma
Smoked meats, cassis, anise, black fruits and coffee grinds. Choc mint biscuits and charred rosemary.

Palate
Mint jelly, juicy ribena currants, anise, stewed cherries and dusty tannins to round out the palate. Sweet blue fruits, chocolate, licorice and toast, plenty of structure and aging potential for those who have the patience to wait.

DJ is a man of few words; as straight up and down as the prized rows of vines he cares for. His passion for grapegrowing is only exceeded by his passion for his family and sport (especially sport!) This reserve Cabernet is a deserving testament to him; to his passion, his grit, his down-right stubbornness, and his relentless efforts to grow the best fruit possible.

Vinification
30% new French oak – the DJ spends 18 months in barrel.

Vintage notes
2022 was another cracking vintage in McLaren Vale. A long, cool ripening period and no heatwaves meant that we had plenty of opportunity to ripen the grapes perfectly.
