Oliver's Taranga

Oliver's Taranga DJ Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 -6pack 14% 750ml

Oliver's Taranga have a long and distinguished history in the McLaren Vale and are custodians of some of the premier vineyard land in the region. Winemaker Corrina Wright is no stranger to creating powerpack Cabernets. Characteristic aromas of blackcurrant, cigar box and earthy dark fruits lure you in to a blackberry jam palate adorned with chewy tannin and brilliant intensity. Delicious, especially if you have a roast lamb handy.

Expert Review:
JAMES HALLIDAY- 95 Points, 45yo Reynell clone, destemmed and berry-sorted, lightly crushed, 3 days cold soak, wild yeast-open fermented, completion of ferment and mlf in French hogsheads (35% new), extended barrel ageing, bottled Sept '19. '17 was a great vintage in McLaren Vale, and cabernet benefited more than any other variety. The wine is finely structured, its blackcurrant fruit with a pure-bred savoury backdrop.

In 1839 William and Elizabeth Oliver travelled to South Australia from Scotland and eventually settled in 1841 on land at McLaren Vale. Whitehill and Taranga farms, the names given to the northern and southern sections of this land, are located 2 km north of McLaren Vale overlooking the township. Taranga is a corruption of the aboriginal word Tarangk, meaning 'the middle' which was used by the Kaurna, a local aboriginal tribe. Sheep and cattle were raised and orchards and vineyards were planted immediately upon arrival and the family prospered. Both properties are still run by fifth generation descendants of William and Elizabeth, with the Whitehill property utilized for cropping and grazing sheep and cattle and boasting a rejuvenated stone 'Chaff Shed' which is used as a function centre and Taranga, which consists of 100 hectares of land, being planted to many different varieties of red and white wine grapes.
