Shaw + Smith is an alliance between cousins Martin Shaw and Michael Hill-Smith. Their aim is to make contemporary, high quality wines that are outstanding examples of their type made from grapes grown in the Adelaide Hills.

Shaw + Smith specialise in grape varieties suited to the cooler climate of the Adelaide Hills, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay & Shiraz.

The vineyard is located on a 28 ha property planted at Woodside Vineyard with new plantings of Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Pinot Noir at Balhannah.

PALATE
Typically it shows a pink grapefruit character, concentration and mid-palate texture, which reflec the carefully selected sites and hand harvesting during the small window of perfect ripeness. This release walks the line perfectly between grapefruit, florals, and zingy acidity.

FOOD MATCHING
A great aperitif or serve with seafood.

REGION NOTES
From our estate vineyards at Balhannah and Lenswood, complemented by fruit from a small number of highly valued growers.

VINIFICATION
Cool fermentation in stainless steel followed by maturation on lees. Early bottling to retain freshness.

VINTAGE NOTES
The 2022 season started cool during flowering, which meant low yields for early budding varieties. The season was mostly mild and dry, but some well timed rain kept vines healthy for what was a later than normal harvest.

CELLARING POTENTIAL
Best drunk within 18 months of bottling.
