Product Information:

If you've sampled Torbreck before you might know their Celtic naming convention so this wine imagines a high country Scottish woodcutter. Woodcutter's Shiraz reflects the up and coming Shiraz vineyards of the Barossa, rather than the battle-hardened old vines that make up the core of Torbreck's other cuvees. Rich, warming, full-bodied and affordable, Torbreck Woodcutter's Shiraz is 100% Shiraz, 100% Barossa and 100% ready to drink now. This show-stopping magnum edition will have the whole party in a Shiraz sipping frenzy.

About Barossa Valley

Arguably the best-known Australian wine region that has well made its mark on the global stage, the Barossa Valley is also one of Australia's oldest. Founded by German settlers, the region's continental climate suited the production of fortified wines, predominantly Riesling, a German wine grape from the Rhineland. But its modern winemaking prowess is built on its reputation for big, ballsy Shiraz, a full-bodied red style with rich chocolate and spice notes. Many Shiraz vines in the Barossa Valley are several decades old, with some vineyards planted with 100-150-year-old vines including Turkey Flat in Tanunda, home to the oldest commercial vines. Other key varieties linked to the region are Grenache, Mourvadre, Cabernet Sauvignon, Riesling, Chardonnay and Semillon, and many of Australia's largest and most notable wineries call the Barossa home.

About Shiraz

Our love affair with Shiraz began when the 'father' of Australian wine, James Busby planted clippings from France and Spain in the Sydney Botanical Gardens and Hunter Valley in 1832. Better known as Syrah in its home in the Rhone in France, the variety can actually be traced back to ancient Persia. The Australian style is richer, riper and more full-bodied than its European counterpart and as our most planted variety, there is incredible diversity from cooler climate, medium-bodied and spicy styles through to more full-bodied, richly flavoured and textured warmer climate wines. From the iconic Penfolds Grange to the local specialty, Sparkling Shiraz, the Aussie Shiraz story is a regional discovery through the Barossa, McLaren Vale, Heathcote, the Grampians, the Hunter Valley, Hilltops and the Canberra District, all with distinct styles to tempt every palate.
