GLENGOYNE 12 YEAR OLD SINGLE MALT SCOTCH WHISKY 43% 700ML
Glengoyne, technically classed as a Highland whisky, toes the Highland line some 20 miles north of Glasgow. Its warehouses sit on the south side of the road, in the Lowlands! There likely aren’t many whiskies that can claim to be distilled in the Highlands and aged in the Lowlands. Glengoyne is a small facility with a limited production, which may contribute to its consistently high-quality malt.
Colour: old gold.
Nose: the rush of apples, the distillery’s trademark character. All shades of it, too, from dry cider to russet. Peaches and apricots. Then digestive biscuits, or rather malted milks. Floral honey. Very fresh and clean.
Taste: clean, fresh, hoppy almost, but definitely into shades of mead, apples (stewed and green), cider. Plenty of cereal character as well, with an Aultmore-like grassiness to boot. The texture, though, is lovely. Nice and dense, chewy. Just beautiful to sit in the mouth. Digestive biscuits. This is not the most overly complex dram globally, but it is exceptionally well-executed for the price.
Glengoyne 12-Year-Old won three Silvers in International Spirits Challenge and International Wine and Spirit Challenge.
