Campbells Merchant Prince Rare Rutherglen Muscat-6pack 17.5% 375ml

Campbells Merchant Prince Rare Rutherglen Muscat -6 pack 17.5% 375ml

Considered the "World's Richest Wines", the Muscats of Rutherglen bear the mark of authenticity, only applied to the great Muscat vineyards of the region. Campbell's 'house style' is complex and elegant, capturing a rich purity of raisin fruit flavours. Walnut, dark chocolate, ground coffee bean, vanilla and nutty rancio characters dominate this succulent drop. A brilliant partner to strong cheeses, plum pudding or as an after dinner drink with coffee.

Tasting Notes: Though a non-vintage wine, some century-old stocks go into the multivintage blend. I had this at 100 points when I last reviewed it, blind. It's still right there.

Expert Reviews:

James Halliday -97 Points. Mesmerising! Merchant Prince is one of the most complex tasting experiences you can have. Such is the depth and age of Campbells fortified stocks; few producers can compete. Dense, deep in colour and super-concentrated, Merchant Prince seems to pour in slow motion. Molasses, dried fruits, soaked raisins and toasted nuts meld and weave their way through the palate, rising in sweet intensity. Clean pair of heels to close. A fortified masterclass. Jeni Port. The Campbell's are a fifth generation winemaking family dedicated to continuing a tradition begun in 1870, of producing premium quality wines that reflect the distinctive characteristics of the Rutherglen region. Drawing on their intimate knowledge of the region the Campbell's can ensure that they grow grapes of the highest quality. The result is traditional styles of wines with finesse and a subtle use of oak complementing the full fruit flavours.

Colin Campbell is the winemaker at his family's estate. Colin completed his diploma of Oenology at Roseworthy Agricultural College in South Australia. On his return to Rutherglen he brought with him new skills and oversaw the rapid expansion of the fermentation cellar to pioneer a new era for wine in the Rutherglen district.
