Aphelion Welkin Project 5255 Malbec 2020 -12pack 13.5% 750ml

Tasting Notes: Part of a creative project out of Langhorne Creek, for which 3 winemakers were offered access to the region's fruit for the first time. From the Wenzel vineyard, 2 separate blocks co-fermented, then steered via a range of vinification techniques and maturation vessels. The deep purple colour is astounding, aromas of masses of violets, flint, and dark plum cake with baking spices. The palate then turns to pure dark plum and garden herb freshness. High intensity flavours, yet with an ease of flow and fine tannin grip. An exciting malbec expression.

Expert Reviews:

James Halliday-95 Points. Part of a creative project out of the Langhorne Creek region: 3 winemakers were offered access to the region's fruit for the first time. Potts clone Malbec, one plot on its own roots, the other grafted on to merlot. Pulpy and expressive, defined as much by the violet lift and teeming blue-fruit references, as by the framework of edgy tannins doused with garden herb and bush tomato accents. Long, mouth-filling and nicely pliant. Tony Love. James Halliday Wine Companion 2022, 13 August, 2021
