During the 1980's, Giovanni Rosso restructured the vineyards with the aim of producing the best possible wines, and in 2001, Giovanni's son Davide took charge of winemaking, following his own mantra "wine should be a perfect copy of its terroir". In 2010 the prized Serralunga d'Alba Cru vineyard, Vigna Rionda, was inherited from Davide's cousin, Tommaso Canale. Davide replanted three-quarters to nebbiolo, the remaining quarter being magnificent old vine nebbiolo, planted in 1946. Davide makes two wines, both named in honour of his mother, Ester Canale: the Nebbiolo Langhe Rosso (young vine) and the Barolo Vigna Rionda Rosso (old vine). In 2016 Davide purchased a small plot at 750 m.a.s.l on Mt Etna, close to the village of Solicchiata, in Passopisciaro with 4.5 Ha planted to nerello mascalese and 1.5 Ha of carricente, farmed organically.

Variety: Arneis
Region: Piedmont & Sicily, Italy
Winemaker: Davide Rosso & Andrea Delpiano

La Crema Monterey Chardonnay 2023 13.5% 750ml

Tasting Notes

Aroma
Grilled pineapple, citrus blossom, tangerine, and papaya.

Palate
White peach, key lime, and honeydew melon are complimented by a touch of barrel spice, and a river stone minerality.

Vinification
Fruit is sourced from all over the Monterey appellation. The tempranillo was planted from 2000 onwards on the Henschke Eden Valley Vineyard, on rocky soils at the source of the North Para River. The Stone Jar name gives recognition to the German Silesian families and their rich and wonderfully varied traditions, which have been carried on for generations. This led to poor flower set and encouraged the spread of downy mildew. A hail flurry on 23 January caused some damage to the green berries, which became sites for botrytis infections later during ripening. The cool lead up to vintage resulted in a slow ripening period, allowing for great flavour development and acid retention. Rainfall during harvest encouraged the growth of botrytis, but careful hand selection during picking delivered good quality fruit. Despite the challenges, the 2023 vintage will be remembered for excellent quality wines. The wine is held in barrel for 10 months and initially stirred every couple of weeks, gradually decreasing frequency over time, until the right texture is achieved across each individual barrel. The barrels are then tasted individually, with the best selected to become our Caldwell Lane Chardonnay.

Vintage notes
The 2023 vintage began with abnormally cool and wet conditions from September through to December. These low temperatures saw a late bud burst leading to some low bud initiation and small bunches across the region. These conditions lead to diligent efforts in our vineyards to open up the fruit zone via extensive leaf plucking, thinning and trimming. The second half of the vintage saw a turn of events with above average temperatures for January, February and March allowing our Chardonnay to reach optimal ripeness whilst retaining beautiful natural acids from the cooler start to the vintage.

PH
3.28

Acidity
8.53 g/L

Country: Australia
Region: Orange
Vintage: 2023
Variety: Chardonnay
Alcohol volume: 12.7
Closure: Screwcap
Volume: 750
Weight: 1.3167kg
Wine style: White (Medium Bodied Oaked)

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2435/3999/files/SwingingBridgeCaldwellLaneChardonnay2021.jpg?v=1696213604
giant-steps-yarra-valley-pinot-noir-2024-13-5-750ml
Giant Steps Yarra Valley Pinot Noir 2024 13.5% 750ml

Giant Steps Yarra Valley Pinot Noir 2024 13.5% 750ml

This Giant Steps Yarra Valley Pinot Noir has a refined fruit component of wild red berry fruits and subtle red cherries. The was some bird pressure early, but the blossom came through halfway, and the birds seemed to disappear overnight. The result is a set of whites with lifted perfume, texture and depth, slightly softer natural acidity than 2024 making them delicious even in their youth, and a Kevin John Chardonnay that looks especially powerful and refined. There was no pause before the reds rolled in, and the long, even ripening delivered another brilliant season for Cabernet: dense, savoury and classically structured. Across the board, 2025 trades the sheer heat and power of 2024 for classical perfume and balance. These wines will drink beautifully now and evolve gracefully in the cellar.

VINIFICATION

This year’s Amber is a blend of 90% Sauvignon Blanc and 10% Semillon from the Cullen Vineyard. This marked the beginning, in particular for Bruno, who from a very early age began to view the grapes as the true expression of the land. In 1978 Bruno decided to carve out a new direction, rather than selling the grapes to large barbaresco producers, Bruno began to sell bottled wine on the Italian and world stage. The philosophy of wine as the natural expression of the Barbaresco territory was widely appreciated, and with the estate's gradual growth came the purchase of new plots of land and the expansion of the cellar, which continues to today with Bruno's children Francesco and Luisa now both closely involved in all aspects of the wine production and sales. The Bruno Rocca company philosophy is clear, as Rocca himself affirms: Wine is the mirror and soul of the ground, and the territory, if protected and defended, it will never let you down.

Variety: Dolcetto
Region: Barbaresco, Piedmont, Italy
Winemaker: Francesco Rocca

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2435/3999/files/Bruno_Rocca_Dolcetto_d_Alba_Trifole_2023.jpg?v=1728144314
domaine-alzipratu-cuvee-fiumeseccu-blanc-2021-13-5-750ml
Domaine Alzipratu Cuvee Fiumeseccu Blanc 2021 13.5% 750ml

Domaine Alzipratu Cuvee Fiumeseccu Blanc 2021 13.5% 750ml

TASTING NOTES

APPEARANCE

Pale straw in colour.

AROMA

The bouquet is characterised by floral notes, apple and almond.

VINIFICATION

The grapes are pressed and settled at cold temperatures.
